Setting Up Netscape Messenger 4.x

Follow the directions listed below to configure the Netscape Navigator element of Netscape Communicator 4.x.

Once you have Netscape Navigator open, click Edit. Then select Preferences. A list of categories will appear. Expand the Mail & Groups category.

Identity: Type your name in the Your name field. Type your email address in the Email address field.

Mail Server: Enter your username. Then enter the Outgoing and Incoming mail server settings. Make sure that POP3 is selected in the Mail Server Type section.

Note: If you are using Netscape 4.7, you may notice that your Mail Server window looks a bit different from the graphic above. Shown below is the Netscape 4.7 Mail Servers window.

Mail Servers: Enter the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server setting in the Outgoing Mail Server section. Then enter your username in the Outgoing mail server user name field. If nothing is listed in the Incoming Mail Servers field, then click the Add button.

Adding A New Server: If you need to add an Incoming Mail Server and have already clicked the Add... button, first make sure that the Server Type is set to POP3 Server. Then, type the Server Name listed below, followed by your username in the User Name field. After entering the information, click OK.

To access email, click the Inbox icon, second from the left, on the component bar at the base of the Navigator window. Another way to access email is to click Communicator in the menu bar of the Navigator window; then select Messenger.
